Geneva Science and Diplomacy Anticipator (GESDA)

Social Media Campaign
2025

We helped GESDA expand its mission beyond diplomacy by shaping a digital strategy to engage broader, younger audiences around the science shaping our future. By translating complex insights into clear, human-centred stories, we reached millions – connecting science with people who might never have engaged with it otherwise.

CONTEXT

As a Swiss foundation rooted in International Geneva, GESDA (Geneva Science and Diplomacy Anticipator) builds bridges between science, diplomacy and society. Its mission is both ambitious and unique: to anticipate emerging scientific discoveries and translate them into concrete action for the benefit of humanity. To do so, GESDA identifies and analyzes the most pressing scientific and technological trends, connecting this knowledge with decision-makers and the public to ensure that breakthroughs serve society rather than outpace it.

Launched at the World Expo in Osaka in April 2025, the Geneva Public Portal to Anticipation sits at the heart of this mission. Designed as an interactive exhibition at the intersection of art, science, and diplomacy – and grounded in the insights of more than 2’000 scientists worldwide – the Portal invites visitors to explore possible futures, shaped by their own choices and by science trends projected over the next 5, 10, and 25 years.

THE CHALLENGE

Science and technology breakthroughs are shaping all of our lives, and it is essential that people not only understand these developments but also feel empowered to take part in the conversation. For GESDA, this meant broadening its focus: complementing its high-level diplomacy work with a strategic effort to engage wider audiences. Our task was to put this shift into action by developing a strategy to reach new target groups, especially younger generations, and to translate complex scientific topics into something tangible and relatable. As part of this, we were also asked to capture and document the Geneva Public Portal to Anticipation at the World Expo and the impressions of its visitors, showcasing its impact well beyond Osaka.

OUR SOLUTION

Our approach was to make science and technology breakthroughs more tangible by adding a human element and strong visual storytelling. To do so, we’ve launched GESDA’s first-ever Instagram and TikTok channel. This allowed us to reach audiences who might otherwise never engage with this type of content.

The online campaign was developed under the guiding narrative “The future is a story written by all of us.” This framing reflects a core belief at the heart of GESDA’s mission: science is not abstract or distant, but something that concerns all of us. By translating complex scientific trends into accessible stories, visuals, and voices, we aimed to show what the future of science could look like and what it means for people’s everyday lives.

IMPACT

The results confirmed our approach. In less than six months, the campaign generated over 1.5 million impressions across both channels, fostering meaningful engagement and sparking interest among new target audiences – especially younger generations.

It reached more than 160K accounts, generated 4K+ interactions, and drove 12k+ profile visits and link clicks. With steady month-over-month growth, the campaign positioned GESDA as a relevant, forward-looking voice in the public conversation on science and the future.
